The Diocese of Okigwe South Anglican Communion was inaugurated on January 8,1994 out of the formal Diocese of Okigwe -Orlu. Her first Bishop was the formal provost of St Paul's Cathedral Nkwere, the Very Rev. B.C.I Okoro. He was consecrated Bishop on the feast of Epiphany of our Lord Jesus Christ on January 6th 1994 at St Micheal's Cathedral Aba Abia State. "The creation of Okigwe South Diocese, as the 44th Diocese of the Church of the province (Anglican Communion) is a Vision on itself . The attainment to the status of a Diocese by our deanery is the beginning of the task of the church which involves so many challenges"- VOMIC 1997 Report.The Diocese started with 10 Priest, 8 parishes, and 48 church stations, there were five archdeaconries Viz: Cathedral Area, Etiti, Obowo, Uboma, Ehime Archdeaconries. By His grace , the Diocese of Okigwe South is waxing strong and growing from strength to strength in all her activities to maintain the vision and mission of the church of God.
